Brain Tumor Surgery

Brain Tumor Surgery:

A Brain Tumor can be cancerous or non-cancerous. A cancerous brain tumor may directly arise from the brain cells or spread from other parts of the body. A cancerous tumor of the brain easily spreads and invades blood vessels and neighboring tissues at a faster rate. Hence early diagnosis and treatment is recommended. Following surgical removal of the tumor, a cancerous tumor may also require chemotherapy and radiotherapy, for complete cure.

On the other hand, a non-cancerous brain tumor is not dangerous in itself. However, as the tumor grows in size, it compresses on nearby brain structures resulting in brain swelling and symptoms like headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, weakness of the body, disorientation, difficulty speaking normally, etc.

Excision of brain tumor is the surgical treatment used to treat the condition. The type of tumor excision procedure used varies depending on the size, location and severity of the tumor and also patient’s age and medical status.
